It is with great excitement that we share with you news and photos of the rebuilding of children’s homes in Myanmar. Following Cyclone Nargis in May 2008, Children of Promise sponsors and donors responded enthusiastically, and with great compassion, to the needs of the children and their families in Myanmar. A total of $81,000 has been given by COP supporters since the cyclone for assistance to children’s families, rebuilding of homes, repair of churches, and distribution of food, medicines and first aid supplies, and clothing.

 

The program staff and volunteers in Myanmar went to work quickly to utilize the funds in the best ways possible. We are pleased to let you know the following figures from the Myanmar relief effort. This is the report from the first $70,000 that was delivered in late May 2008:

 

                Rebuilding 150 homes at $260                                                    $39,000

                Repair and work on Church Buildings                                      $14,000

                Distribution of rice and cooking oil for 200 families            $   9,991

                Distribution of noodles for 200 families                                  $   2,000

                Medical treatment to Bahan, Shwepyitha, and

You can see the before and after conditions in the sample photos of the destruction of children’s homes and the rebuilding. Can you imagine how happy these families are because of your donation? The program director in Myanmar (identity concealed for security purposes) says, “There simply are no words to describe what this means to these families. They are so grateful. God has used you in a mighty way.”

 

The efforts of the church in these communities have been observed with awe by the people. They are simply amazed that God’s people responded in this manner, helping people they don’t know, just because they need it. Many souls have been won as a result of the local Christians’ willingness to help their neighbors and your willingness to give them the resources to do so. The churches are full, and at last count, at least 60 people were waiting for water baptism. People are hungry to find out about this God who loves people. God is good!
