Children in Haiti Receive Their Tents!
 |
| Above, Smath stands inside her new temporary home, her tent from Children of Promise. Smath’s home will be the first to be constructed in April through the partnership with Church of God Ministries. |
Today, we received photos of the tents that Children of Promise supporters provided for children in Haiti. The children and their families have been living under the trees, so the tents will give them much needed shade as well as protection from the rain and other elements. You can see by the smiles on the children’s faces that they are happy! Joles, at right, is already enjoying his new home. Sleeping mats and cooking kits were also provided.
Sheldad (left) is ready to help put up her tent! The tents were shipped to Florida, where they were then flown by Agape Flights to Port-au-Prince. House of Blessings staff and Children of Promise volunteers helped the children erect the tents. The tents will serve as temporary dwellings until the children’s homes are constructed. Some of their homes have been completely destroyed; some are standing, but uninhabitable due to damage to the structures. COP staff and volunteers in Haiti send their thanks, along with the smiles and words of appreciation from the children and their families. Thank you, COP supporters, for helping the children in Haiti during these days.

WANT TO SPONSOR A CHILD IN HAITI? We have received 25 new applications for sponsorship from Haiti. If you would like to sponsor a child from Haiti, please call Vicky Creamer, Sponsorship Associate, at 765-648-2206. She will be happy to help you assist one of the new Haitian children.
We share the following information from our 3-11-10 NewsBlast in case some of you are interested in going to Haiti to help with construction of children’s homes.
Plans are moving forward for the construction of children’s homes in Haiti. Workcamps, working alongside Haitian families, will do the construction. We are happy to announce that the first homes to be constructed through the partnership with Church of God Ministries will be the Children of Promise homes. Workcamps will begin work in May. If you or your church would like to be a part of this effort, contact Reuben Schwieger, who is coordinating the scheduling of work teams for Church of God Ministries. He can be reached by phone at 765-648-2207 or Toll Free 800-848-2464 Ext. 2207, or email rschwieger@chog.org. Children of Promise has spent over $10,000 of the nearly $80,000 given for food, blankets, clothing, medicine, tents, cooking kits, sleeping mats, etc., as well as preparations and arrangements for the construction projects. The remainder will be used for the construction. Your generosity is welling up into wonderful results for these families. We will be sending out photos of the construction of homes once the work begins.
