Dr. Paul L. Maxfield, Executive Director

It is with deep sadness that I share with you the news that Sharon Skaggs has passed away. Sharon was a passionate supporter of the Children of Promise program and the children we all serve. While employed at Church of God Ministries in the Global Missions department (now Global Strategy), Sharon served on the Children of Promise Board of Directors for 15 years! She served with humility and a determined spirit to give children the best possible assistance. She loved and deeply appreciated the work of the COP Directors, staff, and volunteers. (Photo of Sharon was taken on September 18 during her going away party at Children of Promise.)

During the last year, Sharon has worked here at Children of Promise as an office associate. She processed all the countries’ financial reports. She also served as a receptionist at COP, answering phone calls, greeting people, and answering questions. She worked closely with Vicky Creamer in processing the applications for new children, as well as creating the profile folder for each child that eventually goes to the sponsor. Sharon was a committed advocate for Children of Promise, telling people about the program and encouraging them to sponsor.

Sharon believed in the Children of Promise program sincerely and deeply. In 2013, she, along with Dorothy Hampton, arranged for, set up, and served the meals for two weeks (3 meals per day) for the Children of Promise directors from around the world during the Director’s Conference. She loved doing that! She told me so many times how wonderful it was to serve the directors who worked so tirelessly on behalf of the children.

Sharon had moved to Oregon in September 2015 to be near her sisters and other family members. She loved her new life. For that, we are so grateful.

We have lost a friend, a supporter, a leader, an advocate, and a role model. She worked tirelessly for the sponsored children.

Please join us in thanking God for her life, and in praying for her children, Jamie Skaggs Nachtigall (Germany) and Byron Skaggs (Egypt), and their families. She loved them so deeply and proudly.

Arrangements for her memorial services are pending.

God bless you today.

Grace, Peace, and Blessing,

Dr. Paul L. Maxfield
