Doris loved having the opportunity to meet and sponsor a little girl from Africa. When she was in her eighties, it was one of her great joys to receive the photos and letters from this child and to play an important part in financing her education.
Doris L. McCreary was born in Anderson, Indiana, the second child of William and Wilma Bowser. She was a member of Park Place Church of God, grew up living near the church and went to school in Anderson. Doris earned a B.A. degree from Anderson University where she was active in choral music and majored in business. Doris was married to Kenneth G. McCreary on June 20, 1948.
They co-founded the Compenero Club, a social club for young couples associated with the Park Place Church of God that is still active to this day. She is survived by her husband, Kenneth; their children, Connie and Jeff McCreary; grandchildren, Steven and Micheal McCreary; great-grandchildren, Alice and George McCreary; and her brother, Edward Bowser. She is preceded in death by her older brother, William Bowser.
Ken and Doris lived in Marion, Indiana, from 1963-67 where she was a mother, housewife and distributor for Pathways to God, a monthly devotional publication. They moved to Kokomo, Indiana, 1967-1988 where she and her husband owned and operated a daycare, Real Life Playschool. Ken and Doris moved back to Anderson upon retirement and traveled extensively with friends and family both in the U.S. and abroad. They enjoyed many long visits with their two grandchildren who lived in California and, for a few years, in England. Her hobbies and interests included sewing, music, house remodeling, hiking, genealogy, and preschool education. Doris loved life and people and had a warm smile for everyone she met.
